Our company, Nanfang San Quang in Nanning (the capital city
of Guangxi Autonomous Province in South China), was recently established as a
joint venture between Western biologists and Chinese herb traders, to bring
premium Epimedium to the world.
Epimedium, also known as horny goat weed, is grown in China
primarily in the southern provinces of Guangxi and Guiyang. In China, Epimedium
(Pinyin: Yin Yang Huo - Hanzi: 淫羊藿)
has a long history as medication, ranging back thousands of years.
The active ingredient of Epimedium is icariin, which
actually has many properties quite similar to those of the pharmaceutical
products Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra. Like sildenafil citrate (the active
ingredient of Viagra), icariin is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) inhibitor,
thus facilitating erections).
But the sexuality-supporting effects of Epimedium go beyond
the erection-facilitating powers of phosphodiesterase inhibitors. Icariin has
also been shown to work on the dopaminergic system. While phosphodiestrase
inhibitors only dilute penile blood vessels, thus allowing for more penile
inflow and less penile outflow, the dopaminergic effects of icariin also work
on a persons libido.
And beyond that, because of the interaction of the
dopaminergic and the hormonal system, icariin, when taken continuously over a
longer period of time, has the power to raise testosterone, the 'male' hormone
that is responsible for sexual desire in both males and females, as well as the
buildup of muscle in those undergoing strength training.
While the testosterone-enhancing properties of this
wonderful herb have been scientifically established only in the past half
century, the kind of ailments it has been used for in China for many
generations (such as the prevention of osteroposis) are fully in accordance
with the modern profile of this herb as a testosterone-enhancing natural
medication.
